Spuni's patented tulip design naturally encourages babies to latch onto, suck and swallow food from the spoon, offering babies a more manageable portion with each spoonful.
Developed using a combination of additive manufacturing, rapid product development and focused research efforts we invented the first latching spoon. Spuni is a highly effective transition tool that relies on an instinctive infant motor control response in order to effectively transition to solids, reduce mess and improve the feeding experience for both infant and caregiver.
Over 200,000 units of the “Halo” Spuni has shipped to over 35 countries, and the team are now expanding to other ingestion products.
Making a product for infants, especially one that touches both mouth and food, is a serious matter. As we engaged experts in the fields of material science and environmental health, we chose the best available and safest materials for the manufacturing of the first generation spoon. We specifically chose not to use any silicone or latex to reduce the risk of any infant material allergies.
We selected materials based on input from professionals in the fields of material science, manufacturing and environmental health. We have decided to use only Medical Grade Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE) for the manufacturing of the Spuni outer layer. This is the same material used for pacifiers and baby bottle nipples. The inner material, and the material of the future solid Spuni™ will be from an FDA approved Polypropylene (PP). All of our materials are non-toxic and have been laboratory certified to be Phthalate, BPA, BPS and PVC free.
