Engineering Director

We are currently looking for a Senior Lead to join our team in our main office in Brooklyn, NY at the New Lab. This is a leadership position within the studio's design team. She/he is responsible for leading our services and venture projects and defining/documenting best practices for research, ideation, product development, manufacturing and quality assurance as well as for the day-to-day operations, utilization rates, and personnel management of a diverse team of local, distributed, and/or contracted experts. This role also works in conjunction with the Business Development team to define and evolve new service offerings, close new business relationships with clients, and actively participates in business development efforts such as proposals, pre-sales meetings, project estimation/scoping activities, and resource allocation.

Position Expectations

  • Lead the design team in the development of projects
  • Define and document best practices and case studies
  • Provide day-to-day management of a studio's talent
  • Work proactively with a studio's management team to address their team's utilization, work-life balance, and career development
  • Define and evolve new service offerings related to the studios technical expertise and capabilities
  • Develop and close new business relationships with clients in conjunction with the senior team
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for business development efforts such as proposals, pre-sales meetings, project estimation/scoping activities, and resource allocation
  • Build long-term relationships with clients and industry leaders
  • Make hiring decisions for a studio's technology team
  • Maintain a 45-50% billable utilization rate
  • Travel 10-20%
  • Bachelor's degree in the sciences, engineering, or a creative discipline is required (a master's degree and/or project management certification is preferred)


At least 15 years experience in design+engineering in-house or/and agency.
Experience leading and directing 3+ transdisciplinary teams.

Studio Manager & Spuni Brand Operations

General Management

Studio Manager and Spuni Brand Operations is responsible for supervising and maintaining a fun/relaxed, tidy office while supporting Spuni Brand operations. This is a mix of administration, such as supporting the team with shipping materials, ordering groceries, tidying the space, tracking deliveries, booking travel, setting up repairs of machinery and more.


  • Coordinating office activities and operations to secure efficiency and compliance to company policies
  • Keep stock of office supplies and place orders when necessary
  • Assist colleagues whenever necessary
  • Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate office
  • Conduct clerical duties, including filing, answering phone calls, responding to emails and preparing documents
  • Provide administrative support for operations team
  • Purchase computers, printers, supplies, and other equipment
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing mail; receive and sign for mail/packages from couriers and deliver to proper recipient
  • Support Spuni Brand operations


  • Proven experience as an office administrator, office assistant or relevant role
  • Able to complete complex administrative tasks with minimal supervision
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills

  • Familiarity with office management procedures and basic accounting principles
  • High school diploma;Associate degree required ( BSc/BA in office administration or relevant field is preferred)
