K-02

Designed for the harshest environments

The K-02 is a Multi-Patient Oxygen Generator and Delivery System designed to address oxygen insecurity across all levels of the health system, and across all geographies, especially where most medical equipment is unable to operate reliably and consistently through power instabilities.

Deliverables:

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Embedded Systems Design

  • Industrial Design

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Visual Design

  • UXUI

Launch

Lack of access to oxygen during medical emergencies impacts more than half a million people in low- and middle-income countries every day, with 25 countries currently reporting surges in demand - the majority in Africa.

Like other medical equipment, conventional oxygen concentrators are not robust enough to withstand harsh environmental conditions like dust, humidity, temperature and power instability.

Discovery and testing

As Gradian’s managing director for Africa, Kenneth Otieno has intimate knowledge of the challenges of underserved health care environments. He recognized a need for an oxygen delivery system designed for difficult conditions such as dust, humid environments or where there are large fluctuations in temperature or power.

Gradian has a history of introducing human-centered solutions that address gaps in the markets around the world and chose 10XBETA to ramp up their clinician-driven innovation process.

Engineered from the inside out.

The 10X team ensured that the final product was not only functional, reliable, and safe for patients and healthcare providers but serviceable and maintainable in the extreme environments it operates in.

By designing and testing the internal components, systems, and user experience, our team was able to identify and address any potential problems before the equipment is manufactured and used in a clinical setting.

The K–02 was introduced to the public at the All Africa Anesthesia Congress 2022 - where Gradian acted as a sponsor. Gradian CEO Lina Sayed, COO Dave Ettl, Managing Director of Africa Kenneth Otieno, and other members of Gradian’s and 10XBETA’s engineering and clinical training teams attended to showcase and demonstrate the use of the K-02 and other flagship products. By designing and testing the internal components, systems, and user experience, our team was able to identify and address any potential problems before the equipment was manufactured and used in a clinical setting.

UNIVERSAL
ANAESTHESIA
MACHINE

Built on the success of developing the K–02 as Gradian’s newest product, 10X was tasked with redesigning its flagship product: The Universal Anesthesia Machine (UAM).

Originally developed in 2011, the UAM was Gradian’s first product - an anesthesia machine designed to work in the absence of electricity and medical oxygen. The redesigned UAM incorporates new features, based on customer feedback and rigorous product testing, to now include advanced ventilation modes and monitoring.
